The Washington Huskies football team is in the build up to the 2026-27 regular season. Head coach Jedd Fisch and several representatives from the team — junior quarterback Demond Williams Jr., senior linebacker Jacob Manu and senior center Landen Hatchett — will be representing the program at Big Ten Media Days from Tuesday through Thursday at the Hilton Chicago.
Media members who will be on-hand at the event have already released their preseason Big Ten poll, which featured Washington being ranked seventh in the 18-team conference.
Several publications have also began to release their respective preseason all-conference teams, and the Huskies had one member featured on the Athletic's preseason all-Big Ten team, which was put together by Scott Dochterman.
The list featured first-team, second-team and third-team all-conference selections on offense, defense and special teams.
Washington didn't have a single player featured on either of the three teams for the offense and defense, but the special teams included Hunter Green as the first-team preseason All-Big Ten punter.
Green is a local kid from Redmond, Wash., and transferred to his hometown Huskies after spending last season with the San Diego State Aztecs.
The transfer decision also kept a bloodline going at Washington, something that has become a consistent feature in Fisch's tenure as head coach. Hunter Green's father, Phil Green, was a walk-on punter with the Huskies.
With the Aztecs, Green was one of the best punters in the country last season. He had 26 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. UW's punters last season managed just eight punts that landed inside the 20.
Green averaged 47 yards per punt, which ranked 19th in the country, and had 22 punts travel 50 or more yards.
Given the talent returning to the team, it's surprising to see the Huskies with only one selection to a preseason all-conference list. Williams has been a player that's received high praise in the offseason after leading the Big Ten in total yardage (3,676) last season, but had Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin (first-team) Oregon quarterback Dante Moore (second-team) and USC quarterback Jayden Maiava (third team) ranked ahead of him.
Despite not having another player on the list, Washington has a balanced amount of veteran and young contributors on the team and a deep defense that's anticipated to be one of the best in the country.
With Green on the special teams unit and able to flip field positioning, there's a chance UW's defense will be benefit from the punter's skills, which could lead to several defensive players being recognized throughout the season.
