As the Washington Huskies begin to turn the majority of their recruiting attention to the 2028 class, adding high-end reinforcements to the defensive line appears to be the top priority for Jedd Fisch's coaching staff.
Early on in the cycle, defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi and outside linebackers coach Aaron Van Horn have done an impressive job making an impression on some of the nation's top prospects and have put the Huskies in a promising position to make a national statement on the recruiting trail.
Headlined by five-star edge rusher Jalanie George, a product of Desert Edge High School in Arizona, Washington has a golden opportunity to prove that it can stack elite talent at what is widely considered to be the hardest position to recruit in college football. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound George, who is ranked as the No. 9 player in the nation and No. 2 edge rusher by the 247Sports Composite, added the Huskies to his top six alongside Auburn, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, and Oklahoma.
Fisch's coaching staff was able to make a major impression on the coveted pass rusher in early March, when he was on campus for Junior Day, and he isn't the only five-star from Arizona who has made his way to Seattle to take in what the Huskies have to offer.
In mid-May, Washington's coaching staff also welcomed five-star edge rusher Landen Wade from Basha High School in for an unofficial visit, as the 6-foot-5, 250-pound pass rusher, who is ranked as the No. 23 overall recruit by the 247Sports Composite, is the ideal versatile prospect who could move all over defensive coordinator Ryan Walters' front.
The Huskies also have one of the nation's top defensive tackle prospects in their backyard at Eastside Catholic High School in four-star Aedyn Havili. After extending an offer to him before his first snap of high school football, Kaufusi appears to have developed a strong relationship with the 6-foot-2, 320-pound defensive tackle, who is ranked as the No. 98 overall recruit and No. 9 defensive lineman by the 247Sports Composite.
If the Huskies are able to land even two, or possibly even all three of the high-end defensive linemen, that would give Walters the kind of depth he needs to build a pass rush that can compete with the Big Ten's best.
However, adding several high-end prospects along the defensive line is much easier said than done, as, in addition to competing with most of the nation's other elite programs, the Huskies will likely have to invest significant NIL resources to seal the deal.
