TOPEKA (KSNT) – It was all ‘Bods in Game 3.
Washburn baseball (21-29, 17-18 MIAA) upset No. 5 Pittsburg State (39-9, 26-9 MIAA) 5-0 in the series final on Saturday afternoon.
The Ichabods took an early 3-0 lead in the first. Easton Wasinger got the scoring going with an RBI single to center field.
Then, a wild pitch would bring in another run for the Ichabods.
To cap off the scoring run in the first, Trenton Barry hit a sac fly to score Levi Risenhoover.
The Gorillas would struggle to get anything started on offense due to the efforts from Seaman Viking’s alum Gavin Wilhelm. Through 6.1 innings pitched, he allowed one hit and no runs with five strikeouts.
“He really commanded the zone and went after it very quickly,” Washburn baseball head coach Harley Douglas told 27 Sports. “When you get on top of it, you can start throwing the pitches you want, and I thought he did a good job with that today.”

“I just felt good the entire day, everything was working for me,” Wilhelm said. “Good defense behind me and yeah, I was taking it one pitch at a time and just going from there.”
In the third, Washburn’s Jack Borgmann homered to left center to increase the Ichabods’ lead to four.
Washburn would plate another run in the seventh inning thanks to an RBI double from Trenton Barry.
In the win, Washburn limited Pitt State to zero runs and just two hits.
“I thought today was kind of a testament of what we have tried to do as a team and as a staff, to really continue to fight for each other,” Douglas said. “I’m excited to head down next week and hope to continue to play good ball.”
Washburn will be the No. 8 seed in the MIAA Tournament and will take on No. 9 Central Oklahoma in the first round starting Wednesday, May 6. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
