TOPEKA — Washburn men’s basketball is set to lose another starter. Jeremiah Jones announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on Monday, March 23.
The junior started 32 of Washburn’s 33 games this season. The only game he did not start was due to senior day celebrations.
This was Jones’ only season with Washburn. He played two seasons at the University of Mary before coming to Topeka.

Jeremiah Jones: How he broke Washburn basketball's record for most steals in a season
Jones averaged 9.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. His most impressive attribute was his defensive skills.
Jones secured 103 steals this year, which broke a Washburn single-season record. He was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year for the conference. He was picked third-team all-conference, too. After helping Washburn win the MIAA Tournament Championship, Jones was also an all-tournament team pick.
The Chicagoland native will go down as one of the best defensive players in program history. He led all of Division II in steals during the regular season. He also secured eight steals in the MIAA Tournament semifinals, which was a new tournament record.
This is Washburn’s second player to hit the transfer portal. Last week, second-leading scorer Dillon Claussen announced he would be transferring away from the program, too.
With Bryson Smith and Brady Christiansen graduating, Jack Bachelor is the only remaining starter returning for the Ichabods. The Topeka-native will be playing in his final season of college basketball next year.
Washburn's season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Ichabods lost 64-62 to Minnesota-Duluth in the Central Region Quarterfinals on March 14.
