The Golden State Warriors missed out on LeBron James, forcing them to move in a different direction with their free agency plans. However, Golden State does not have much financial flexibility to work with this offseason.

The Warriors have missed the playoffs in two of the last three seasons and are hoping to build a roster capable of returning to postseason contention. On Tuesday, Draymond Green agreed to return on the same contract he previously opted out of.

“Draymond Green has agreed to return to the Golden State Warriors on a one-year, $27.7 million deal, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN. The contract is the same Green opted out of to give the Warriors flexibility to pursue LeBron James, but the sides land his return Tuesday,” ESPN Shams Charania wrote.

Golden State is now searching for affordable additions that can provide immediate impact. SI’s Joey Akeley believes the Warriors could target veteran wing DeMar DeRozan.

“The Warriors have been linked to DeRozan, which makes sense considering they have a need for a wing scorer and DeRozan is the best wing scorer available. If DeRozan is looking for a role in which he can continue to average upward of 18 points per game, he should choose the Warriors,” Akeley wrote.

The biggest obstacle standing in the Warriors’ way is the Miami Heat, who are currently viewed as the favorites to land DeRozan.

“Miami Heat have been a Derozan landing spot for years now, there's been so much connectivity between him and the Heat and I do think the Heat seem to be the most likely scenario for DeMar DeRozan right now…Miami is probably his best bet…those other spots really don't have spending power," The Stein Line's Jake Fischer said.

DeRozan would be a strong addition for the Warriors because he would provide another reliable scoring option alongside Stephen Curry. However, his defensive limitations remain a concern, as he has struggled on that end of the floor throughout his career.

DeRozan was previously on a $73 million contract with the Sacramento Kings before being waived. Golden State could potentially add him on a much cheaper deal, giving Curry another proven offensive weapon. Adding DeRozan to the lineup would create another layer of scoring for a Warriors team looking to compete again.
