The Golden State Warriors acquired Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat on February 6 in a deal that changed the team's entire season. The Dubs were 25-25 when they traded for Butler. They finished the season 48-34.

The Warriors faced the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2025 playoffs and won the series in seven games. Butler, who missed Game 3 after getting hurt in Game 2, averaged 18.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks in the best-of-seven series. He only missed one game after suffering a pelvic contusion in Game 2.

After the Warriors beat the Rockets in Game 7 on Sunday, Golden State owner Joe Lacob admitted to Sam Amick of The Athletic that he had some concerns about acquiring Butler, who had been traded by every team he'd played for.

However, Lacob quickly found out how "fantastic" Butler is.

"Yeah, there were (concerns about Butler),” Lacob said. “But you do your analysis, you make your choices, and, yeah, it was a little bit of a risk. But we’ve got to take risks in this life. And he’s worth every freaking penny. That’s all I can say. He’s fantastic.”

The Warriors play one of Butler's old teams, the Minnesota Timberwolves, in the second round of the playoffs.

Butler, who will get booed by Timberwolves fans, has felt welcomed in Golden State since Day 1.

“The way that everybody locked in (when he arrived), it made me feel welcome,” Butler said. “And we took off. … We never wavered. The confidence never went anywhere. (It’s a) really good group of hoopers. A really good group of people. So that’s what I’m gonna take into this next round, is (that) we’ve got some guys. We play at an extremely high level, and on any given night we can beat anyone.”
