I hope the Golden State Warriors don't make a move just for the sake of making one if LeBron James decides to sign elsewhere. Unfortunately for the Warriors, however, there really might not be any other choice but to do so.
As things currently stand, the Warriors are undoubtedly one of the more average teams in the NBA, and I don't think anyone would disagree. However, the last thing I think the Warriors should do is go out and try to make a play for an aging player who isn't James.
The one guy in particular I don't think they should go after is DeMar DeRozan, as recent reports suggest Golden State will have some interest if James signs elsewhere.
“DeMar DeRozan will be coveted once James comes off the board. He is an option in Miami as well as with the Warriors, who could seek to sign DeRozan even if they land James. Golden State has 11 players signed and about $35 million left under the second apron, which could include two veteran deals and the return of Draymond Green,” Sean Deveney wrote.
Not to say that DeRozan isn't a decent player still at this stage of his career and a future Hall of Famer, but I really don't think he's the perfect option for a Warriors team that, frankly, isn't really good enough to win a championship with him and has absolutely no use for him on its roster.
