The Golden State Warriors hold the 11th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. While they could look to package the pick as part of a trade for an established star, there's a good chance the Warriors will keep hold of the selection and look to add a high-upside young player to the roster. Finding cost-controlled talent is a difficult task in the NBA, so a rookie who is capable of contributing is always a welcome addition.
Of course, some Warriors fans will likely be concerned regarding Steve Kerr's ability and willingness to develop the incoming rookie. The veteran head coach has struggled to balance developing young players with contending in a stacked Western Conference. However, when speaking with the media on Friday, May 15, Kerr provided some assurances that whoever is selected with the 11th pick will get a fair opportunity to earn minutes.
"I've talked to Mike (Dunleavy)," Kerr said, via ESPN's Anthony Slater. "I mean, I don't know the draft, but he feels really strongly that we're going to get a good player. It could be a 19-year-old. It could be someone older. It's obvious where we are with the injuries to Moses and Jimmy. You look at our depth on the wings. That guy has to play, and he's got to earn it, you know. But we're committed to the development of our young players and trying to do this thing in a way that allows for success down the road, down the road meaning, the end of next season and and beyond. We're excited about that."
This year's draft class projects are to be deep. Golden State could certainly land someone who is capable of earning a spot in the rotation while also having sizeable upside in the short to mid-term. However, allowing that player to play through mistakes and learn on the fly will be key to their overall development.
Golden State has a great chance to add to its young core this summer. If Kerr is open to developing players while also working toward a championship, next season could be exciting for multiple reasons.
