There have been rumors, innuendo, and more as it pertains to University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel. Some uncredible personalities indicated he had already been fired as of Sunday, while others more accurately reported that he's meeting with the U-M board of regents on Thursday, as his fate may be determined from the governing body in the wake of the Jenner and Block investigation into the AD culture.

But, according to Manuel himself, his demise is being greatly exaggerated.

Manuel spoke to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger on Monday about his fate, and according to Manuel, there is no buyout being worked on to oust him from his role as Michigan AD. Per Dellenger, Manuel said: "The president and I have had several great conversations over the past couple of days. There are no plans for me not to continue to be the athletic director for the near future."

The public speculation about Manuel's future reached something of a fever pitch on Sunday evening. While he may not have plans to depart his post, the regents and interim U-M president Domenico Grasso could decide otherwise, and that could be decided on Thursday -- or later.

Manuel has overseen the AD in unprecedented times, as college sports have since created the transfer portal and NIL. While many have noted Manuel being slow-footed in the latter, at the moment, the Wolverines do have one of the more robust NIL attacks in the country, as led in large part by Champions Circle, a collective embraced and recognized by Manuel's athletic department.
