The Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams played a Thursday Night Football thriller to kick off Week 16, with former Denver Broncos tight end Eric Saubert catching a game-winning two-point conversion to seal a 38-37 win for Seattle.
During the Seahawks' wild comeback, Seattle made it 30-28 in the fourth quarter ahead of a two-point conversion attempt. Initially, quarterback Sam Darnold’s pass appeared to fall incomplete. Then a bizarre scenario came into play.
After review, officials determined that Darnold threw a backward pass, and it just happened to be picked up by running back Zach Charbonnet across the goal line. So, after review, it was ruled a fumble, recovered by Charbonnet in the end zone for a successful two-point conversion. Nobody would have guessed that from the actual play:
Rams coach Sean McVay said he's never seen anything like it after the game.
Former Broncos coach Wade Phillips chimed in on Twitter/X, noting that's why he told defensive players to always pick up the ball, regardless of the apparent circumstances.
So, for all the young football players out there: always pick up the ball, even if it appears to be an incomplete pass, pick up the ball.
