State championship season is here and girls athletes around the Salem-Keizer area are competing for district and state glory as the 2026 OSAA spring sports season begins to close.
Every week, you get to vote for the Statesman Journal’s Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Maps Credit Union.
Here are the nominees for this week’s girls Athlete of the Week.
Information about each nominee is listed below. Vote for the athlete you think is most deserving at statesmanjournal.com/sports. The poll closes at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Herring, a senior, won the 100-meter dash in 12.47 seconds and ran on the winning 4x100 relay (49.43) May 22 at the Central Valley Conference district meet.
Johnson, a sophomore, won a three events May 22 at the Central Valley Conference district meet. She won the 800 (2:20.92) and 400 (57.88) and had a leg on the first-place 4x400 relay (4:02.0).
Johnston, a junior, won an individual and team OSAA 4A/3A/2A/1A state championship May 18 by shooting a score of 150 (+6) across two days at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond.
Meier, a senior, won the 1,500 (4:49.16) and 3,000 (10:36.25) May 22 at the Central Valley Conference district meet.
Miller, a senior, won the shot put with a toss of 35 feet, 7 inches and discus (116-9) May 22 at the Central Valley Conference district meet.
Skogstad, a senior, won the 200 (26.07) and had a leg on the winning 4x400 relay (4:02.0) May 22 at the Central Valley Conference district meet.
Woolsey, a sophomore, posted a team-high three hits and three RBIs May 18 in the Dragons' 11-1 win over Lebanon to finish the Mid-Willamette Conference slate undefeated.
