The OSAA spring sports season is nearing the end and Salem-area girls athletes across baseball, track and field, golf and tennis are gearing up for the climax of the season.

Every week, you get to vote for the Statesman Journal’s Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Maps Credit Union.

Here are the nominees for this week’s girls Athlete of the Week.

  • Mariela Hajdaravaic, Sprague tennis
  • Maddi Jones, Dallas softball
  • Natalie Macik, McNary softball
  • Mila Morley, Stayton track and field
  • Mahala Pyle, Scio softball
  • Ava Sanchez, Central track and field
  • Kasey Zuidema, Crosshill Christian track and field

Information about each nominee is listed below. Vote for the athlete you think is most deserving at statesmanjournal.com/sports. The poll closes at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Mariela Hajdaravic, Sprague tennis​


Hajdaravic, a freshman, finished as the top singles competitor at the Central Valley Conference district meet May 12 to qualify for the OSAA state championships.

Maddi Jones, Dallas softball​


Jones, a junior, drove in five runs with three hits and a home run May 13 in the Dragons' 18-3 win over Silverton. Jones also pitched three innings and struck out three batters.

Natalie Macik, McNary softball​


Macik, a senior, hit a three-run home run May 11 to help the Celtics clinch a 9-5 win over Central Valley Conference rival West Salem.

Mila Morley, Stayton track and field​


Morley, a sophomore, threw 140 feet, 9 inches in the javelin at the Stayton Invitational May 9 for a first-place finish and Class 4A's top mark this season.

Mahala Pyle, Scio softball​


Pyle, a junior, hit a first-inning two-run home run and finished the game with two hits and three RBIs May 14 in the Loggers' 7-3 win over rival Dayton.

Ava Sanchez, Central track and field​


Sanchez, a freshman, ran a 25.82-second 200-meter dash at the Stayton Invitational May 9 for a first-place finish and Class 5A's seventh-best time this spring.

Kasey Zuidema, Crosshill Christian track and field​


Zuidema, a junior, threw 39-1 in shot put and 134-0 in javelin May 12 at the Austin Smith Thrower's Invite. Both marks were good for first-place finishes and both throws are Class 2A's best marks of the season.
