Here are The Arizona Republic's top 10 high school players for the week of April 27-May 2. Vote in our poll below for No. 1. The poll closes at 6 p.m. on May 7. Print readers can find the poll online with this story at azcentral.com/sports/high-schools. Coaches nominated players.
1. Kellan Tom, Corona del Sol, Sr.
The right-hander threw a one-hit, complete-game, in a 4-1 win over Glendale Apollo in the first round of the 6A playoffs. He also had two hits. He has a 6-1 record with a 2.80 ERA and is hitting .455 with eight homers and 40 RBIs.
2. Tre Hallberg, Desert Ridge, Jr.
In a 9-8, 6A play-in win over Pinnacle, he hit three home runs, including a walkoff three-run homer in the eighth inning. He had six RBIs on the day.
3. Clayton Sheets, Sandra Day O'Connor, Jr.
In an 8-7 play-in win over Champions Circle (formerly Cesar Chavez), he went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, including a two-run homer in the seventh inning to walk it off.
4. Ryder Bell, Hamilton, So.
The left-hander improved to 6-0, going 6⅔ innings in a 6-2 first-round win over Liberty.
5. Yovanni "Yoyo" Suarez, Mogollon, Sr.
The left fielder went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs scored and two RBIs in a 1A first-round 11-1 win over Baboquivari.
6. Charlie Borchard, Brophy Prep, Jr.
He pitched the full seven innings, getting the win, in a 6-1 victory over Millennium in the first round of the 6A tournament.
7. Rett Ethier, Brophy Prep, Fr.
In a 10-0, six-inning regular-season finale over Notre Dame Prep, the freshman pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven and walking one.
8. Finley Simms, Northwest Christian, Sr.
The right-hander, on April 27, pitched six innings, giving up two hits, one earned run and striking out 13.
9. Regen Mazura, Canyon del Oro, Sr.
In an 8-0, 5A first-round win over Paradise Valley, he struck out 10 in a complete game.
10. Carson Lockman, Lake Havasu, Sr.
The right-hander struck out 11 in a 15-0, five-inning perfect game. He was 8-for-11 with a home run and nine RBIs on the week.
