When the 2026 regular season starts in fewer than two months, the Seahawks will either have a new owner of the process will be plunged into chaos.

Via ESPN, the NFL's owners will gather on a to-date unspecified day in August 2026 to vote on the bid from a group led by multibillionaire Vinod Khosla to buy the team for $9.612 billion.

The fact that Khosla already has been approved to buy a minority stake in the 49ers will make part of the process simpler; he's already been vetted and approved for membership in he club. The key question will be the structuring of the deal.

There's no reason to think it won't be approved. These kinds of transactions rarely fall apart.

But it's not unprecedented. The most memorable failure came in 1998, when novelist Tom Clancy tried to buy the Vikings for $200 million while contributing only $5 million in cash.
