There are seven candidates for Guthrie Athlete of the Week for events of May 9-16, 2026.
Voting will be open until noon Thursday, May 21. Vote below.
Guthrie Athlete of the Week nominees are from the coverage areas of the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal and Corning Leader. They are based largely on results submitted to [email protected].

This week's candidates:
Boe Briggs, Horseheads boys lacrosse: In wins over Vestal and Binghamton, Briggs went a combined 45-for-48 on faceoffs. He scored a goal against Vestal and had a goal and an assist against Binghamton.
Jackson Cavalier, Elmira baseball: Cavalier tossed a 5-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Maine-Endwell. He followed by hitting a walk-off 3-run homer in a 13-11 win over Vestal, then went 2-for-4 in a win over Rush-Henrietta.
Amy Field, Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour softball: Field went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs, and an RBI in a win over Edison in the IAC South Large School tiebreaker. Field went 2-for-3, including a go-ahead 2-run single, in the Storm's win over Lansing in the overall Large School final.
Avery McCauley, Elmira girls lacrosse: McCauley had 9 goals and an assist in the Express' 19-7 win over Seton Catholic Central. She had 3 goals in less than a half earlier in the week in a game against Union-Endicott that was cut short. Also during the week, she scored 2 goals against Chenango Forks.
Cella McClaughlin, Corning girls track & field: McLaughlin won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.96 seconds and the long jump with an effort of 18 feet, 8.5 inches at the Corning Fast Times Invitational. She also helped Corning win the girls 1600-meter relay in 4:02.17.
Stella Palladino, Owego Free Academy girls track & field: Palladino swept the 100-meter dash (12.68) and 200 dash (26.11) at the Corning Fast Times Invitational.
Parker Terrell, Vestal baseball: Terrell tossed a no-hitter as Vestal gave head coach Tank Anderson his 500th career victory in an 8-0 win over Owego. Terrell struck out 10 and walked 4.
