Congratulations to Hopedale softball player Delaney Vaillette, who won last week’s honor with 9,413 votes. The final Daily News Girls Athlete of the Week poll includes six athletes who put in top post-season performances. Vote below. The poll will stay open until Sunday, June 21 at 6 p.m.
The freshman totaled 19 strikeouts in her team’s two Final Four games. She fanned 11 in a state semifinal win over Georgetown and set down another eight batters in the championship game loss to Maynard.
The graduate and Arkansas-bound Edozien placed second by .03 seconds at the New England Championships in the 100 hurdles.
The recent graduate won the 400 meters at the New England championships in North Berwick, Maine. Elder’s time was 54.08 seconds. The previous week, she won the 400 at the Meet of Champions in Andover.
The sophomore won her match in straight sets at No. 2 singles on Saturday during the Division 3 state championships against Martha’s Vineyard.
The junior hit a two-run homer and struck out five to lead the Eagles to the Division 4 state championship and an undefeated season.
The junior placed fourth in the high jump (5 feet, 5 inches) at the New England Championships.
