Voting is now open for the South Bend Tribune Girls Basketball Player of the Year poll. The poll will be open until Thursday, March 19 at 11:59 p.m. ET, and voting is unlimited.
Below is the list of 21 nominees from 16 different South Bend Tribune coverage area schools, listed in alphabetical order first by school then first name.
The junior averages more than 13 points, more than five rebounds, more than three assists and more than four steals per game for a Bobcats team that is still going in the MHSAA state tournament thanks to district and regional championship wins.
Grubbs made the IBCA Senior Small School All-State team after leading the Lions to an IHSAA sectional and regional championship in a season where she committed to Cornerstone University, eclipsed 1,000 career points and set the program’s all-time steal and assist records.
Kincaid made the IBCA Senior Small School All-State team as well, also reaching 1,000 career points. She averaged more than 14 points and two steals per game.
The junior set a school record for most points in a game when she dropped 40 in a win against Berrien Springs Jan. 12. She was named to the All-Wolverine Conference First Team.
The senior All-NIC First Team honoree surpassed 1,000 career points early in the season and was an IBCA Senior All-State Honorable Mention. She averaged nearly 14 points per game and more than five rebounds.
The sophomore was an IBCA Underclass All-State Honorable Mention after leading the Eagles to IHSAA sectional and regional championships. Yordy averaged more than 10 points per game and led the way with 3.6 steals per game, while also grabbing more than four rebounds and five assists per game.
The senior IBCA All-State Honorable Mention and Huntington commit eclipsed 1,000 career points and helped the Falcons win an IHSAA sectional and regional championship.
The junior IBCA All-State Underclass Honorable Mention eclipsed 1,000 career points and helped the Falcons win an IHSAA sectional and regional championship while leading the team in scoring.
The junior All-INSC First Team honoree led the Falcons in scoring, assists and steals as their 18-6 season was their best since 2018.
The IBCA Senior All-State Honorable Mention helped the Slicers to a 12-12 record, more wins than the past four seasons combined, while nearly averaging a double-double as the leading scorer and rebounder.
The senior All-INSC First Team honoree put up more than 15 points, five rebounds and two steals per game for the Lancers.
The IBCA All-State Supreme 15 Senior honoree and Northern Illinois commit was one of the state’s best players, surpassing 2,000 career points to become the Blazers’ all-time leading scorer – boys or girls – as they won a sectional title.
The junior IBCA Underclass All-State Honorable Mention set the Blazers’ program record for most 3-pointers in a season and in a career.
The sophomore IBCA Underclass All-State Honorable Mention and All-NIC First Team honoree averaged a double-double with nearly 17 points and more than 11 rebounds per game.
The senior was named to the All-Wolverine Conference First Team and helped lead the Vikings to their first MHSAA district championship since 2018.
The junior IBCA Underclass All-State Honorable Mention and NLC All-Conference honoree was the Raiders’ sectional and regional championship squad’s top 3-point shooter and averaged more than 12 points, five rebounds and two steals per game.
The junior IBCA Supreme 15 Underclass and NLC All-Conference honoree was the Raiders’ top scorer, rebounder and defender with more than 18 points, seven boards and three steals per game. She also surpassed 1,000 career points.
The freshman IBCA Underclass Large School All-State and All-NIC First Team honoree was the sectional-champion Kingsmen’s leading scorer, passer and defender with more than 14 points, three assists and two steals per game.
The sophomore IBCA Underclass All-State Honorable Mention and All-NIC First Team honoree averaged nearly 11 points and five rebounds per game for a Penn squad that won the NIC and went 24-4.
The junior All-NIC First Team honoree scored more than 30 points in a game multiple times while averaging more than 15 points and two steals per game.
The IBCA Underclass Large School All-State honoree and NIC Most Valuable Player was perhaps the state’s best freshman, averaging 27.3 points and 3.9 steals per game. She also set the Huskies’ single-game and single-season scoring record.
