The week of Jan. 11-17 was a full week of high school boys basketball, wrestling and swimming featuring teams and athletes from the Des Moines metro area.
In boys wrestling the Bob Sharp Invitational in Ankeny and Tiger Invitational in Adel both took place. In boys basketball Waukee edged Johnston in a 59-57 thriller, Waukee Northwest rolled past Dowling Catholic, 72-52, and Ankeny won a rivalry game over Ankeny Centennial, 52-46.
There were also some exciting boys swimming meets that took place from Jan. 11-17.
Several high school male athletes from the metro area stood out during the week.

Charlotin had a huge night on the boards for the Southeast Polk boys basketball team during a 60-50 victory over defending Class 4A state champion West Des Moines Valley on Jan. 13 at Pleasant Hill.
Charlotin finished the game with 14 points and 16 rebounds. He also dished out six assists and contributed four steals and two blocks.
Pfaltzgraff posted a double-double with over 20 points and rebounds apiece during a 68-61 victory by the Bondurant-Farrar boys basketball team over Des Moines Hoover on Jan. 13 at Bondurant.
Pfaltzgraff went for 25 points and 21 rebounds against the Huskies. He made 9 of 13 field goals and also contributed three assists and two blocks.
Crosson placed first at 106 pounds during the Bob Sharp Invitational on Jan. 17 in Ankeny.
Crosson went 3-0 during the tournament. He pinned Norwalk's Gabriel Colunga and scored a technical fall over Boone's Easton Landas (21-3) to make it to the championship round, where he defeated Class 3A No. 10 Eddie Salgado of Ankeny by a 9-6 decision.
Harbison placed first at 285 pounds during the Tiger Invitational varsity boys wrestling tournament on Jan. 17 at Adel.
Harbison went 3-0 during the tournament. He pinned Southeast Polk's Tyler Cunningham and defeated Iowa Falls-Alden's Trayvahn Williams by major decision (13-4) to reach the finals, where he pinned Dallas Center-Grimes' Kahne Westergreen.
Bush had another explosive scoring outing for the Des Moines North boys basketball team during a 59-54 win over Marshalltown on Jan. 13 at Des Moines.
Bush went for 32 points in the win for the Polar Bears. He made 11 of 22 field goals, 5 of 10 3-pointers and 5 of 6 free throws during the game, and he also tallied seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
