It's time to vote for The News Leader's Athlete of the Week for April 20-25. Girls dominate the poll this week with five nominees representing three different sports.
The News Leader staff, with input from coaches and fans, nominate the athletes. Then, every Monday, we open the polls and let readers select the top athlete in The News Leader coverage area from the previous week. The poll remains open through Friday at 5 p.m. The winner is announced Saturday.

This week's nominees are:
Karlee Layne helped lead Stuarts Draft to two huge wins during the week, 4-3 over Buffalo Gap on April 21 and 3-0 over Wilson Memorial on April 24. Layne, a junior, pitched complete games in both, striking out 15 combined batters and walking no one.
Ridgeview Christian's Karina Kwiecinski hit back-to-back home runs and was 2-for-3 at the plate against Temple Christian on April 24. The freshman catcher is hitting .742 this season for the Crusaders.
Katie Lawhorn broke the Wilson Memorial school record in the high jump at the Augusta County Invitational April 25 in Fishersville. The senior jumped 5-feet, 3 1/2 inches to eclipse the previous mark by a 1/2 inch.
Sarah Piner won both the discus and shot put events at the Augusta Invitational in Fishersville April 25. The Riverheads sophomore broke her own school record in the discus with a throw of 119-feet, 5 1/2 inches. She three 34-feet, 8 1/2 inches to win the shot put.
Amelia Kimmell helped lead Waynesboro to two wins over Wilson Memorial and Riverheads to remain unbeaten in Shenandoah District play. Kimmell had a goal in the April 21 3-0 win over Wilson and scored another goal in a 2-1 win over Riverheads on April 23 in overtime.
