Franklin sophomore pitcher Anthony Ficco was voted the Daily News Boys Athlete of the Week for May 18-25. He garnered 42.09 percent of the more than 350 votes.
Ficco threw a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 win against Hopkinton in the Rich Pedroli Classic opener.
He beat out Medway's Jackson Duguay (14.4 percent).
Now we turn our attention to this week's top performers and the candidates for the Daily News Boys Athlete of the Week (May 26-31):
Brody Barrett, Millis baseball: Punched out 16 batters with no walks and allowed just four hits in a 3-2 win over No. 31 Gateway in the Division 5 preliminary round.
Nicholas Begic, Lincoln-Sudbury track & field: Sprinted to a 200-meter dash Division 2 state championship in 21.98 seconds.
Will Conley, Wayland volleyball: Pulled up 11 digs with three aces in a 3-0 win against No. 32 Pioneer Charter in the Division 2 Round of 32
Eben Consigli, Nipmuc track & field: Led a Warriors 1-2 at the top of the Division 5 discus, taking the state title at 158 feet, 11 inches.
Gold medals: MIAA track & field state champions from MetroWest and greater Milford

Mike Costa, Natick volleyball: Put down seven kills in a 3-0 win against No. 30 Somerville in the Division 1 Round of 32
Sean Finnegan, Hopkinton track & field: Outlasted the field in the two-mile, winning a Division 2 state championship in 9:17.81.
Eric Johnson, Bellingham baesball: Delivered two hits in a 5-3 win over No. 37 Leicester in the Division 4 preliminary round.
Drew Laidley, AMSA baseball: Earned the win with 2⅓ innings of relief with three strikeouts, doubled and scored a run in a 4-3 victory over Sutton in the Division 4 preliminary round
Alex Larson, Tri-County track & field: Won the Division 4 discus state championship, clearing 141 feet, 10 inches.
Luke Lewis, Hudson lacrosse: Had four goals and four assists in a 14-1 win over No. 38 Northeast Metro RVT in the Division 3 preliminary round.
Dylan Maw, Tri-County baseball: Struck out nine, including the 200th punchout of his career, after throwing 5⅓ innings allowing just two hits in a 2-1 upset over No. 25 East Longmeadow in the Division 3 preliminary round.

Ryan McCormack, Wayland track & field: Secured the Division 4 state title in the pentathlon with 3,335 points. McCormack was also the pole vault champion at 13-6.
Mayck Moreira, Milford volleyball: Hammered down 14 kills in a 3-0 sweep against No. 29 Millis.

Anthony Moura, Hudson baseball:Struck out nine and threw 6⅔ innings in a 5-3 win over No. 19 Groton-Dunstable in the Division 3 Round of 32.
Darsh Nayak, Westborough tennis: Led the charge at No. 3 singles in a 5-0 win against No. 32 Ashland in the Division 2 Round of 32, sweeping Darsh Sah 6-0, 6-0.
Ashton Reich, Tri-County lacrosse: Went 13-for-13 on the face off, collecting his 275th draw win of the season in a 9-5 victory against No. 36 Bishop Fenwick in the Division 3 preliminary round.
Noah Smith, Hopedale baseball: Was 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs in a 12-0 win against No. 24 Hull.
Jack Wallace, Algonquin rugby: Scored one try, gained 85 meters and made 6-of-7 conversion kicks in a 47-19 win over No. 8 Chelmsford in the Division 2 quarterfinals.
