CHEBOYGAN – It’s time to vote for the Cheboygan Daily Tribune’s Athlete of the Week.
Each week, Cheboygan area high school athletes will be eligible for the athlete of the week honor. Athlete of the week polls go live on Monday and voting closes at 11 p.m. on Thursday.
FRIDAY ROUNDUP: Pitching fuels Inland Lakes baseball in sweep; Cheboygan soccer battles to tie at home
TOP PERFORMERS, APRIL 28-30: Kosanke's no-no, Postula's 15K gem lead top Cheboygan-area sports performers April 28-30
Here’s this week’s nominees:
Lydia Kosanke, Cheboygan Softball – Tossed her first-career high school no-hitter with seven strikeouts in a victory over Grayling.
Tristan Stead, Cheboygan Boys Golf – Finished 17th out of 123 golfers by shooting an 86 at the Ogemaw Heights Invitational.
Ty Kolly, Inland Lakes Baseball – Combined to go 3-for-3 with two doubles, five RBIs and seven runs scored in a doubleheader sweep over Gaylord St. Mary.
Poppy Wallace, Mackinaw City Softball – Combined for eight hits — including a grand slam — eight RBIs and eight runs scored in a sweep over Wolverine.
Matthew Russ, Onaway Baseball – Finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored in a game one victory over Pellston.
Brett Bonter, Pellston Baseball – Went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored against Mackinaw City.
Ariel Tucker, Burt Lake NMCA Softball – Recorded 12 strikeouts and five strong innings to earn a pitching win, while finishing with two doubles and two RBIs in a game one win at Alanson.
