The 2025-26 high school school year is in the books.
It's time to look back at the top performances from local teams that performed at the highest levels. Joseph Case softball and Somerset Berkley field hockey each captured state championships during the calendar year.
Supporters of the schools — Atlantis Charter, Joseph Case, Diman, Durfee, Somerset Berkley and Westport — and student-athletes can visit heraldnews.com to vote for the person of their choosing.
Voting will conclude July 25 with the winner announced here and X (formerly known as Twitter). Vote early and often.
Here are the nominees for The Herald News High School Girls Team of the Year.

The Raiders captured their second back-to-back state championship in the program's history after blanking Hingham, 3-0. It's the fourth state title in school history for SBR (22-1) and first back-to-back crowns since the 2018-19 seasons.

The Cardinals (22-2) advanced to their second state championship game in four years with the last coming in 2022. Case eventually lost to Bellingham in the Division 3 state championship game.

The Raiders had another terrific season last fall. SBR (15-2-1) easily had the best soccer team in the area and clinched a berth to the postseason.
PLAYOFFS: Somerset Berkley girls soccer looks for deep run in the tournament
The Tritons girls basketball team, with only one high schooler, made history this past winter after winning their first state playoff game against KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate. Atlantis Charter lost in the Division 5 Round of 32 game against No. 8 Lee.

The Hilltoppers had a strong season during the winter months. Durfee finished with a 16-5 mark and made it to the Division 1 Round of 32 where they lost to Quincy

The Cardinals (23-2) completed a four-peat this spring after beating Apponequet in the Division 3 state final game, 5-1. It was the Cardinals fourth straight state championship and eighth overall state title in 11 appearances, tying them with Bishop Fenwick (8). Only Turner Falls (12) and Taunton High (11) have more state championships.

It was a Cinderella season for the Raiders, who made it to the MIAA state championship game for the first time in program's history. SBR (18-7), who was the No. 3 seed, won four straight playoff games before falling to No. 1 King Philip, 14-1 in the Division 2 finals.

The Tritons secured their first-ever Mayflower Athletic Conference Comprehensive title in school history. Atlantis Charter, which was undefeated through five meets, ended up a perfect 4-0 in divisional meets.
