It was another exciting week for Des Moines metro-area high school female athletes from April 20-26, highlighted by the 115th Drake Relays track and field event at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The Relays ran all week and featured amazing performances from Des Moines-area high school female athletes. There were also outstanding outings by metro-area girls soccer players during the week.


Here are the Des Moines Register's female Athlete of the Week candidates from the Des Moines metro area for the week of April 20-26. DesMoinesRegister.com readers vote to determine the winners, who will be announced at the end of the week.

Emma Havighurst, Wes Des Moines Valley​

Havighurst ran a Drake Relays and Iowa all-time girls high school record time to win the girls 100-meter hurdles at the Drake Relays on April 25.

Havighurst set the record time of 13.82 seconds during the prelims on April 25. She followed that up by running the exact same time in the finals to make history and claim a white flag.

Avery Vogt, Waukee Northwest​


Vogt helped the Waukee Northwest girls track and field team claim the girls high school Relays cup by contributing to the Wolves' wins in the girls 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Vogt anchored Northwest to victory in the 4x100, and she ran the third leg during the Wolves' win in the 4x400 to close out the Relays on April 26. The Wolves ran the 4x100 in 47.65 and the 4x400 in 3:51.02.

Vogt also ran the third leg on Northwest's victorious girls 4x200 team that won in 1:40.97 on April 25.

London Warmuth, ADM​


Warmuth earned her first white flag at the Drake Relays by winning the girls high jump on April 25.

Warmuth jumped five feet, seven inches to take first in the event over HLV's Ema Roberts, who jumped 5-6. Warmuth cleared 5-7 on her first attempt.

Evelyn Soto-Contreras, Des Moines Lincoln​


Soto-Contreras was unstoppable for the Des Moines Lincoln girls soccer team during an 11-1 victory over Des Moines Hoover on April 24 in Des Moines.

Soto-Contreras had a hand in 10 goals for the Railsplitters. She scored nine goals and dished out one assist.

Zoie Allen, Carlisle​


Allen had a big game to help the Class 2A No. 14 Carlisle girls soccer team to a 10-0 victory over Carroll on April 21 at Carroll.

Allen went for five goals in the game. She racked up that impressive goal total on six shots on goal.
