While the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team appears to be hemorrhaging talent, Megan Duffy and the women’s team are getting a jumpstart on next season.
On Wednesday, Talia Goodman of On3 revealed that the Hokies had landed a commitment from 6-foot-2 forward Alyssa Latham. Latham, a native of Glenwood, Illinois, was a four-star recruit out of high school in the 2023 recruiting class.
Latham initially committed to Syracuse, where she spent her freshman season, appearing in 32 games with 26 starts. She averaged 8.6 points and led the team in rebounding 7.0 RPG). After her first season, she transferred to Tennessee.
In 2024-25, Latham appeared in 34 games with five starts, averaging 3.9 PPG and 3.7 RPG. Last season, Latham appeared in 27 games, starting 16, and averaged 4.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Latham has one year of eligibility remaining and picked the Hokies over Ole Miss.
A former member of the ACC All-Rookie Team, Virginia Tech hopes a return to the league where she began her career leads to a strong finish. The Hokies lost Kilah Freelon to graduation, so Latham could be a natural replacement. Freelon started all 32 games last season, averaging 9.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, which led the team.
