The 2025 season couldn't have gone much worse for Max Brosmer. After impressing in the Minnesota Vikings' three preseason games, Brosmer was thrust into the starting lineup after injuries to J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz.
In six games (two starts), Brosmer completed 47/71 passes but only managed 328 passing yards (4.6 yards per attempt), zero touchdowns, and four interceptions, none worse than an underhanded pick returned 84 yards for a touchdown in a 26-0 loss to the Seahawks.
But even though the Vikings are allowing McCarthy and Kyler Murray to compete for the starting job, with Wentz waiting in the shadows as a veteran backup, the team isn't ready to move on from Brosmer yet. According to Alec Lewis of The Athletic, there are teams around the league who would try picking Brosmer up if he hit the open market.
“Optimism for Brosmer persists," Lewis wrote last week. "The Vikings wished he didn’t have to play during his rookie season, but circumstances thrust him into the spotlight. Release him, and opposing teams will have interest.”
This is a potential problem for Minnesota if it were to try to get Brosmer onto the practice squad. They would need to release him first, and then he would have to clear waivers, before the Vikings could bring him back.
Some may be ready to write off Brosmer's NFL career, but it sounds like he'll have a chance to redeem himself after a tumultuous 2025 season that affected almost every player on Minnesota's offense.
