Vikings rumor would reunite Kyler Murray with former All-Pro Cardinals receiver originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Minnesota Vikings should feel better about their quarterback room after adding Kyler Murray to the equation in early March.
The goal was to find a competent signal-caller who could compete with J.J. McCarthy for the starting job in 2026-27, and the franchise did just that.
According to TMZ Sports, things could get even better for the organization in the foreseeable future, as a recent rumor suggests it could reunite Murray with a former Arizona Cardinals All-Pro receiver.
"Kyler, that's my bro, man,” DeAndre Hopkins told the TMZ Sports staff. “Kyler's like family. I talked to Kyler throughout the year last year. I talked to Kyler after his situation in Arizona.”
“Kyler's like family, man. I would always embrace that journey with him. He's on a one-year deal, if I'm not mistaken. Whatever I can do for someone like that -- if Kyler needed me, if the Vikings need me, they know I'll be there.”
Hopkins played high-level alongside Murray to begin his tenure with the Cardinals in the early 2020s. The strong-handed 33-year-old wideout recorded 157 receptions for 1,979 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in his first 26 games in Arizona.
After a less-than-ideal 2022 season with the Cardinals, though, Arizona released the five-time Pro Bowler. Hopkins has competed with the Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens since leaving the Cardinals.
To put it mildly, Hopkins’ production has been subpar recently, as he’s been used sparingly as he’s aged. The Clemson product finished with 22 receptions for 330 receiving yards and two touchdowns with the Ravens this past season.
Could reuniting with Murray help Hopkins return to his old, above-average ways? Maybe, but the feeling will have to be mutual for a deal to occur this offseason.
