The Minnesota Vikings front office has told us all offseason how they feel about second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy; you just have to look between the lines. Now, the non-commital stance is coming from the head coach, as Kevin O'Connell spoke on McCarthy and his timeline, and there was a lot said in a few words.
While speaking to the media during the NFL Combine, O'Connell was asked if he still views McCarthy as a franchise quarterback, and his answer was interesting.
Do we care to acknowledge that he did not flat-out give a definitive answer? O'Connell, much like most of the front office, has skirted around the topic of J.J. McCarthy, and it begs the question: Do they already know he won't be the starter in 2026?
We know the quarterback situation is going to be very fluid, and all the signs are pointing toward yet another year of quarterback turmoil.

Kevin O'Connell today on if he still views J.J. McCarthy as a franchise QB: "A lot of those feelings are still the same. It's just the timeline is in a different place for all of us than it was [in 2024]."
