The Minnesota Vikings are facing a pivotal point in their franchise history. They have pivotal decisions to make across the board, none bigger than what they do at quarterback. It is well past being established that J.J. McCarthy struggled and they are now second-guessing letting Sam Darnold walk after his Super Bowl win.
The team has been attached to a variety of types of quarterbacks, including unproven ones. However, one thing remains certain, they are weighing every option. As ESPN's Jeremy Fowler suggests, they are even considering going after some veteran ones.
Fowler writes, "I've also heard that the Vikings are considering (Kyler) Murray and (Geno) Smith as they outline their veteran quarterback plan. Tua Tagovailoa and Cousins are also on their radar. Some I've talked to are breaking those four into two tiers, with Murray and Smith in the first group."
Geno Smith has emerged as a popular name for the Vikings to go after. He has seen some highs and lows in recent years, but that makes him the ultimate backup for the team. If McCarthy struggles, they could lean on Smith and know they are getting a proven leader with a never-say-die attitude.
The perfect words to describe the ideal backup quarterback in the NFL.
