In yet another Friday afternoon roster paring move that was fully expected, the Buffalo Bills are moving on from safety Taylor Rapp.

On his Instagram account, Rapp posted "Thank you, Buffalo," and the Bills confirmed his release so he's the third veteran heading out the door at One Bills Drive as the Bills perform surgery on their bloated salary cap.

The release of Rapp will free up around $3 million and cause a mere $666,000 in dead cap space.

Taylor Rapp's time as a Buffalo Bill

Rapp came to Buffalo in 2023 and played well enough in his first two seasons where he started 18 of 30 games, but his 2025 season was a mess as he started terribly, then got hurt and did not play against after Week 6.

Even if the Bills hadn’t changed coaches, defensive coordinators and scheme, there was doubt that Rapp would be brought back for 2026 because the Bills need a better answer next to Cole Bishop in the back end.

Rapp was originally a second-round pick of the Rams in 2019 and he played four seasons in Los Angeles, winning a Super Bowl after the 2021 season. He actually missed the first three playoff games that season but returned in time for the Super Bowl and he made seven tackles in the victory over the Bengals.

He joined the Bills as a backup to Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde, and then he became a full-time starter in 2024 when both of those players moved on from Buffalo. That year, Rapp made 82 tackles, two interceptions and forced a fumble.

With Rapp and Taron Johnson gone, the Bills have some big decisions to make as they seek replacements for their secondary.
