Golden State’s 90-88 win over the Indiana Fever was already dramatic enough, with the Valkyries holding off Caitlin Clark’s team at Chase Center.

But Veronica Burton made sure the night belonged to her. She delivered 25 points, six rebounds, five blocks and three assists.

That line did more than lift Golden State to 5-2. It also placed Burton beside one of the greatest guards the WNBA has ever seen.

According to StatMuse, Burton became the first guard with at least 25 points, five rebounds and five blocks in a WNBA game since Diana Taurasi in 2008.

That is the kind of company that makes the stat feel bigger. Taurasi is a three-time WNBA champion, former MVP and the league’s all-time leading scorer.

Burton’s night was also her best scoring performance this season and the second-highest total of her career, behind only her 30-point game against Washington in August 2025.

The timing mattered too. Golden State needed every part of her performance to edge Indiana, and Burton’s five blocks gave her box score an unusual defensive punch.

She is now averaging 15.9 points, 5.9 assists and 3.3 rebounds this season, while continuing to grow into Golden State’s lead guard role.

The Valkyries have been one of the early season surprises, and Burton’s all-round jump explains why. This was not just a big game. It was a drought-breaking statement.
