Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's historic IPL 2026 season ends with awards galore

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a phenomenal IPL 2026 season, and he rounded it off by collecting nearly every individual honour on offer.

The Rajasthan Royals opener walked away from the IPL 2026 awards ceremony with five prizes, a haul that no single player in the tournament's history has matched.

He claimed the Most Valuable Player award with a points tally of 436.5, the Orange Cap for finishing as the leading run-scorer with 776 runs across 16 innings.

He also won the Super Sixes of the Season title for his 72 maximums, the most by any batter in a single IPL edition, the Super Striker of the Season award, and the Emerging Player of the Season honour.

His 72 sixes surpassed Chris Gayle's long-standing single-season record of 59, and he came tantalisingly close to breaking Gayle's 30-ball century record, but just fell short by three runs.

His exploits carried Rajasthan Royals through to Qualifier 2, where their run eventually came to an end against Gujarat Titans.

What did Vaibhav Sooryavanshi say?

Sooryavanshi was measured in his response, and he acknowledged the pressure of the occasion.

"It feels good. But I'm feeling pressure because I have come here for the interview. I'll try to work hard and improve my performance next season. I try to back my game and if first ball is in my area, I will go all out and try to play in that way," Sooryavanshi said.

"I learnt how to play in pressure games. You can't play in a single way. You have to play according to what the team needs and what the situation demands. I learnt it from the playoffs. The focus is on that."

Despite smashing records across the entire tournament, Sooryavanshi said fitness is the area he needs to address most urgently.

"If I have to play for a long time, I have to save myself from injury. I have to work on my fitness now," he added.
