USC-Notre Dame set to resume in 2030 after brief hiatus

Though it looked like the long-term future of the USC vs. Notre Dame rivalry was in serious jeopardy, the series will return after a brief hiatus.

The two schools had no future matchups scheduled after the 2025 season, but on Monday, The Athletic's Pete Sampson reported that they've agreed to bring the series back. It's reportedly a four-game contract that will begin in 2030, and the games will reportedly be played early in the season.

According to Sampson, the 2030 matchup will be held in Week 1 in Los Angeles while the 2031 matchup will kick off the season in South Bend. It will reportedly replace the Fighting Irish's home-and-home with the Indiana Hoosiers.

Breaking: Notre Dame and USC have agreed to four-year contract to resume their rivalry, beginning in 2030. Games will be played early in the season, Week 1 in Los Angeles and South Bend in 2030 and 2031, respectively.

The series is one of the oldest in college football and has been played annually since 1926, aside from three years during World War II and the COVID-impacted 2020 season in which the Pac-12 canceled all non-conference games.

Now, the series will resume after a four-year absence, at least on a temporary basis.
