Countdown to kickoff is back! USC will kick off its 2026 football season on August 29 when the Trojans host San Jose State at the Coliseum. In this series, we will be counting down the days until the season opener by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number.

Today, we go back to the early 2010s and look at former USC tight end Xavier Grimble.

Position: Tight end

Years played at USC: 2010-2013

Career highlights: Grimble arrived at USC in 2010 alongside new head coach Lane Kiffin. After redshirting his first season on campus, Grimble played a key role for the Trojans over the next three years. He finished his USC career with 69 receptions for 731 yards and 11 touchdowns.

After USC: Following his redshirt junior season, Grimble declared for the 2014 NFL draft. However, he was not selected, and spent the next two years on various practice squads before making his NFL debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016. Grimble spent parts of four seasons with Pittsburgh, catching 23 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns.
