The players of USC and UConn's women's basketball teams honored Kobe and Gigi Bryant from head to toe.
On Saturday, Dec. 13, the college basketball teams faced off at Galen Center in Los Angeles, where players showed their love for the late NBA star and his daughter, Gigi, who "always wanted to play for the Huskies," according to a 2020 report from CNN.
Ryan Kartje, the USC Trojans reporter for the Los Angeles Times, shared a photo of the two teams lined up on the court before tipoff. Kartje explained that the players were "all wearing different pairs of Kobe's" for the game "to pay homage to Kobe and Gigi Bryant, who would've been in her freshman year at UConn."
Gianna and her father Kobe Bryant were tragically killed in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020. Before the tragedy, Gianna was a big fan of the Huskies.

One day after the fatal crash, UConn honored Gianna by draping her No. 2 jersey over one of their bench seats. A bouquet wrapped in blue and white ribbons was in front of it. The X post was captioned, “Mambacita is forever a Husky ”.
Vanessa Bryant has continued to be a big supporter of the Huskies, and after they won the 2025 NCAA championship over the South Carolina Gamecocks in April, Vanessa, 43, celebrated on social media with a sweet mention of Gigi.
Reposting UConn's official graphic announcing they're the champs, Vanessa wrote, "Gigi would've loved being there with you."
In quotes, she added, ''When you think you can't, UCONN' - Gianna Bryant'" and two heart emojis, one of them broken for her late daughter.
