Chad Baker-Mazara is no longer a member of Southern California’s basketball program, the school announced Sunday in a brief statement.No reason or additional details were provided.
Baker-Mazara was the Trojans’ second-leading scorer and started 22 of 26 games this season. He scored 14 points in USC’s 82-67 loss to No. 12 Nebraska on Saturday but played just 19 minutes. Sixteen of those came in the first half.
The 26-year-old graduate student from the Dominican Republic went down hard along the baseline early in the second half after blocking a shot. He left the game roughly three minutes into the half and did not return.
“He said he couldn’t go,” coach Eric Musselman said afterward, adding that he had not spoken with a trainer about Baker-Mazara’s condition.
Baker-Mazara later sat on the baseline adjacent to USC’s bench alongside injured teammate Rodney Rice. Asked whether it was customary for him to sit near fans, Musselman cited a shortage of chairs on the bench.

Baker-Mazara was named MVP of the Maui Invitational in November, which USC won. Southern California marked his fifth collegiate stop. He began at Duquesne, transferred to San Diego State where he earned Mountain West sixth man of the year honors. He then spent time at Northwest Florida State College and Auburn before arriving at USC.
The Trojans (18-11, 7-11 Big Ten) have two regular-season games remaining before the Big Ten Tournament on March 10.
