If not for a late rally in Game 3 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional, UNC isn't playing in the College World Series right now.

North Carolina trailed USC, 3-1, after its offense continued failing to convert with runners in scoring position. Macon Winslow closed the Diamond Heels' gap to one run, then the magical ninth inning started.

Cooper Nicholson turned an 0-2 count into a walk. Carter French singled through the infield, Jake Schaffner scored Nicholson on a sac fly, then Owen Hull doubled French in for the electric walk-off.

UNC won its first three games in Omaha, thanks to a pair of comebacks and a hot start. French, who started each of those games in right field, says a little piece of Boshamer Stadium is North Carolina's good luck charm.

“Yeah so, my mom gave me some dirt from The Bosh that she picked up after we won the Super Regional," French said. "She gave me a little plastic bag full of it and she said, sprinkle it on the field, give ourselves a little bit of the Bosh magic out here in Omaha." So I did that, I’ve been doing it the last two games. I actually forgot the first game, so it’s worked against those guys (West Virginia) and hopefully, it’ll work (against Oklahoma). I saved some left, I gotta ration it cause I’m almost out. But I don’t think I’m gonna be able to go back to Chapel Hill and get any. But yeah, it’s been awesome. Shout out to mom.”

Carter French’s mom packed him a bag of dirt from North Carolina’s Boshamer Stadium to bring some of that magic to Omaha.

French, known primarily for his lockdown defense, reached base safely in each of the Diamond Heels' first three CWS games. French's best game in Omaha came Wednesday, when he recorded two hits in five plate appearances, while scoring two runs and driving in another.

Can French win a CWS title in his final season of college baseball? Can UNC channel a little more Bosh Magic in the CWS Finals?
