With Drake Powell declaring for the NBA Draft, the North Carolina Tar Heels are in major need of a small forward for their 2025-2026 campaign.

UNC could play West Virginia transfer Jonathan Powell at the three, but he's a shooting guard. North Carolina looked at the likes of Andrej Stojakovic, but he chose Illinois.

The Tar Heels struggled to find height in the 2024 college basketball offseason, whereas they're struggling to find a small forward in the 2025 offseason. UNC is hoping to solve that missing piece with its latest transfer portal interest. On Thursday, May 8, On3 Sports' Joe Tipton reported North Carolina is showing interest in Texas Tech's Devan Cambridge.

If Drake Powell doesn't return to Chapel Hill, adding Cambridge would complete the Tar Heels' roster puzzle. Cambridge is praised for his defensive versatility, just like Powell. Cambridge's stats are eerily similar to Powell's: a career average of 7.2 points per game, compared to Powell's 7.4 PPG in 2024-2025.

Texas Tech transfer Devan Cambridge has received interest from the following schools since getting his waiver for an additional year of eligibility earlier today, he tells @On3sports:

North Carolina
Ohio State
Pittsburgh (visiting Wednesday)
Arizona
Arizona State
Seton Hall… https://t.co/o5NYXULjEF

Looking at the other schools Cambridge has interest from, Arizona is the only one I can think of having an advantage over UNC. The Wildcats are a consistent NCAA Tournament threat, advancing to the Sweet 16 in three of their last four seasons.

In a perfect situation, North Carolina gets Powell back from the Draftand lands Cambridge. Right now, though, I suggest the Tar Heels bring in Cambridge for a visit. Given the current state of UNC's roster, which improved in major fashion this offseason, I'll be shocked if Cambridge doesn't commit.
