The North Carolina Tar Heels entered this offseason with some needs to fill for the roster, and it was up to Hubert Davis and Jim Tanner to make sure they improved.
With key players moving on via eligibility or the transfer portal, there is a lot of production to replace. UNC does welcome a three-man recruiting class headlined by top 10 player Caleb Wilson. Joining Wilson are Derek Dixon and Isaiah Denis.
They are also welcoming in a four-player class in the transfer portal with the potential to add more. Davis so far has landed Henri Veesaar, Jonathan Powell, Jarin Stevenson, and Kyan Evans in the portal.
As of right now, the Tar Heels have done a good job in the portal, and the rankings show that. The updated 247Sports class rankings combine the recruiting class and the transfer portal class. For North Carolina, the Tar Heels currently rank No. 5 overall with a score of 67.80.
They are behind only No. 1 Houston, No. 2 Duke, No. 3 UConn, and No. 4 Kentucky.
North Carolina has a total of seven players coming in, with one five-star player and six four-star players in the two classes combined.
Now, the rankings are great and show where UNC could stand at the moment. But it has to transfer to the court, and the production has to be there. That's what UNC is hoping for, especially after the year they just had in 2024-25 where they barely made the tournament and were eliminated in the first round after beating San Diego State in the first four.
