Michael Malone knows that he won't have any time to waste when it comes to building a contender at North Carolina. His swingman rotation just got a little bit deeper, as small forward Kevin Thomas has committed to the Tar Heels.

The class of 2026 forward was initially set to play for LSU, but decommitted in March when incumbent Tigers coach Matt McMahon was relieved of his duties.

The Tar Heels know all about decommitting players as a result of a coaching change, but this situation broke in their favor with Thomas.

Thomas averaged over 15 points and four rebounds per game for Monteverde Academy last season.

Perhaps indirectly, Thomas' addition provides a little bit of insurance for Malone if recent transfer Matt Able decides to take his talents to the NBA.
