North Carolina clinched the series sweep with a 7-3 victory over the Pitt Panthers on Sunday, closing out the final weekend of the season at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels (40-9-1, 20-7 ACC) ended with a record of 28-6-1 at Boshamer this season. Their final regular-season home series showcased a mix of offensive fireworks and pitching duels, bookending Saturday’s offensive outburst with two tightly contested pitching battles.
Here are the top performers from the series.
Nicholson had four hits in 11 at-bats, including two home runs. His 13 homers this season lead the team.
In UNC’s 4-1 win over Pitt in Game 1, Jason DeCaro pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven to earn the win and improve to 9-2 on the year. It was his second straight scoreless outing, and he has not allowed an earned run since April 17, when he gave up one in UNC’s 5-2 win over then-No. 2 Georgia Tech.
Glauber appeared in two of the three games in the series against Pitt, pitching a combined seven scoreless innings and allowing two hits with six walks and seven strikeouts.
He picked up his fourth save of the season in Game 1, when he recorded five strikeouts over the final three innings. He also appeared in Game 3 of the series and, despite a shaky outing with five walks and two strikeouts, earned the win to improve to 7-0 on the year.
