Atlanta Braves pitcher Chris Sale threw six innings Saturday, Aug. 8 against the New York Yankees. He left with a 3-2 deficit in an eventual 5-4 loss.
More than the five hits or two walks he allowed, Sale was bothered by a balk call in the fifth inning by home-plate umpire Dan Merzel. Because a runner (Spencer Jones) was on third base at the time, the Yankees got a free run as a result of the controversial call.
Braves manager Walt Weiss was ejected from the game for arguing the balk call.

Sale waited a day to get his shot in. Home plate umpire Dan Bellino ejected him for arguing before the series finale between the Yankees and Braves got underway — a rarity for an MLB game.
