Umpire C.B. Bucknor hit by foul ball, forced to exit game

It hasn't been a good week for MLB umpire C.B. Bucknor.

The subject of intense scrutiny for his calls that had to be reversed in games Saturday and Tuesday, Bucknor's assignment behind the plate for an afternoon clash between the Brewers and Rays in Milwaukee on Wednesday, April 1, Bucknor had to leave in the top of the second inning after being hit by a foul ball.

With Brewers flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski on the mound, Rays catcher Nick Fortes just nicked a 100.2 mph fastball that hit Bucknor directly in the front of his mask.

Bucknor went down onto his hands and knees behind the plate and eventually left the game.

After a 13-minute delay, first base umpire Chad Fairchild took over behind the plate and the game continued with a three-man crew.
