Axel Sola impressed at UFC Fight Night 282 en route to victory against Ismael Bonfim.
After falling short in a Fight of the Year contender against Mason Jones in March, Sola (12-1-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) bounced back in a big way with a display of grappling dominance against Bonfim (20-7 MMA, 2-4 UFC) in their welterweight bout Saturday at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Sola manipulated Bonfim through a series of positions before he locked in a D'Arce choke for the tap at the 4:44 mark of Round 1. Check out the replay below (via X):
Sola, 28, revelled in the aftermath of his second career submission, but said it was mostly a product of the damage he inflicted before locking up the choke.
"I'm very happy to be here," Sola told Daniel Cormier in their post-fight interview. "He was tired. He took a lot of elbows, so I'm very happy to get the finish in the first round."
