Many fight fans knew King Green vs. Terrance McKinney would be mayhem, and indeed it was.
Kicking off the UFC 329 main card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, two of the division's most exciting fighters delivered what could end up being both the Round of the Year and the Comeback of the Year when all is said and done in 2026.
Ultimately, it was Green (36-17-1 MMA, 17-12-1 UFC) who stopped McKinney (18-9 MMA, 8-6 UFC) with one second left in Round 1 – but the majority of the time leading up to the finish was a much different story.
After a few give-and-take exchanges that drew blood from both men, McKinney swung the momentum in his favor. He stalked Green, slicing up his face even more, and digging heavy blows to the body. McKinney even utilized his wrestling, an aspect of his game he doesn't always show.
When the fight hit the canvas, McKinney pounded away at Green, as referee Kerry Hatley looked closely. Green did just enough to escape a stoppage level of damaging blows, but gave up his back. McKinney worked for a rear-naked choke and nearly got it. However, Green broke the body lock, and they rose to their feet.
A big right body punch from Green clipped McKinney above his right hip. McKinney crumpled to the canvas against the cage and covered up. It was a race between Green and the clock – and the longtime UFC lightweight was quicker.
Green, 39, has won four straight. He entered Saturday's bout off victories over Lance Gibson Jr., Daniel Zellhuber, and Jeremy Stephens.
McKinney, 31, drops to 1-2 in his most recent three. He has not seen the second round since July 2023, having fought eight times since.
