Many suspected a brutal knockout was coming in the UFC 327 matchup between Dominick Reyes and Johnny Walker. It ended up playing out the opposite.
There were no big moments over three rounds between the light heavyweights on Saturday at Kaseya Center in Miami. The judges has to pick a winner in the end, and it was Reyes (16-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) who took the split decision victory over Walker (22-10 MMA, 8-7 UFC) by scores of 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28.
Walker attacked the leg of Reyes early and often, and by the end of the first round had the former title challenger moving gingerly. Reyes got a few licks in, but nothing of true substance.
Both men were a bit gun-shy to start the second, causing some boos from the crowd. Reyes started to find some success with his punches and combinations while Walker fought on the outside with low output. Walker shot for a takedown late, but it wasn't successful.
The crowd booed more in Round 3 with Reyes and Walker fighting cautiously and with little fight-ending intent. Jon Anik noted there was "not much to commentate" and Joe Rogan said "that's a nice way of saying this fight sucks."
Reyes got his hand raised when it was all over, but it didn't deliver in the way many anticipated, and he did not recieve a post-fight interview.
