Carlos Ulberg is expected to miss significant time after the title win

Carlos Ulberg could be out for a while, according to a sports medicine doctor.

The new light heavyweight champion stopped Jiri Prochazka at UFC 327 despite coming off a serious knee issue.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Doctor Brian Sutterer spoke about the potential extent of Ulberg’s injury.

Dr. Brian Sutterer, known for his analysis of sports injuries, gave his thoughts on Ulberg’s situation after reviewing footage from UFC 327.

Sutterer believes that Ulberg has torn his ACL, an injury that will require surgery and is likely to keep him out until the end of 2026.

“That injury that Ulberg suffered is almost certainly going to keep him out for a very long time. It’s not his Achilles, it’s something more serious in his knee,” Sutterer said.

The doctor continued: “This is pathognomonic of an ACL tear. I would be stunned [if it’s not]. There is nothing else that is going to cause the tibia to shift forward internally like that and then pop backwards other than an ACL tear.

“This is almost certainly going to be a surgical injury. I’d be surprised if we see him fighting in nine to 12 months, which is really a shame when you’ve just acquired a new title.”

Jiri Prochazka points to Ulberg’s injury as a factor in UFC 327 loss

Jiri Prochazka has called for a rematch, saying that his UFC 327 knockout defeat was influenced by what he described as ‘stupid mercy’.

The 33-year-old explained that his approach to the fight changed after he realised Carlos Ulberg had picked up a significant knee injury.

Speaking from hospital while getting his jaw checked, Prochazka posted an apology to fans on Instagram: “Thank you for all of your support. We are just checking the jaw in hospital.

“Big apologies for my performance. I still can’t understand my stupid mercy in the fight that cost me this fight. I would like to fight a rematch because that was my fight.

“I just gave him this opportunity to catch me. Big apologies to everyone who supported me.”
