College football's new transfer portal rules could be set to see their first major challenge.
On Thursday, UCLA quarterback Karson Gordon entered the transfer portal. Though players are only permitted to enter the transfer portal during the lone January window and not after spring practice, it seems Gordon aims to take advantage of a potential loophole.
Gordon, who also runs track, is entering the portal as a track athlete per On3's Pete Nakos. However, he still intends to play football next season at his new school.
A former three-star recruit in the 2024 class, Gordon hasn't appeared in a game in his first two seasons with the Bruins and was moved to receiver this spring.
It remains a bit unclear whether Gordon will be permitted to play football at his new school this fall, though On3's Alex Byington reported that NCAA rules allow players to sign as two-sport athletes as long as they enter the transfer portal during an official window.
The track and field window began on Thursday and will remain open for a month.
Only time will tell if the NCAA will attempt to put a stop to moves like Gordon's, but for now, it seems a transfer portal loophole has been discovered.
