During the MLB Draft Combine earlier this week, we got a slight peek into what the future looks like for UCLA Bruins shortstop Roch Cholowsky. Cholowsky discussed his pre-draft process, including which MLB franchises he’s met with ahead of next month’s draft.

Cholowsky told Sam Blum of The Athletic that he met with the Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay Rays and the San Francisco Giants. The White Sox own the first pick of the MLB Draft, with the Rays right behind them at No. 2 and the Giants owning the No. 4 pick.

That leaves out the Minnesota Twins at No. 3, but Cholowsky didn’t have too much to say when explaining why he didn’t meet with Minnesota.

"I don't know. I stay out of those talks,” Cholowsky said. “I just do whatever's on my schedule. I don't make those calls."

Top draft prospect Roch Cholowsky said he met with 3 teams at the MLB combine:

• White Sox (No. 1 selection)
• Rays (No. 2)
• Giants (No. 4)

Why not the Twins (No. 3)?

Cholowsky was viewed as the No. 1 pick for much of the college season but after a quiet exit for Cholowsky and the Bruins, catcher Vahn Lackey and shortstop Grady Emerson have picked up momentum. If not the White Sox, the Giants have been viewed as an option. Cholowsky grew up a Giants fan and San Francisco have added to their signing bonus pool by trading for a second first round pick.

It was still a terrific collegiate career for Cholowsky, owning a career batting average of .329 with 52 home runs and 167 runs batted in 178 games as a Bruin. We’ll find out Cholowsky’s home soon enough. The draft begins on July 11th where Cholowsky will be one of several UCLA players selected.
