UC Bearcats enter last week of season among college baseball's Top 25

Having taken two of three at Kansas State and six of seven in their recent road trip, the Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team has made all of the relevant Top 25s heading into their final homestand.

Led by head coach Jordan Bischel, the Bearcats are No. 25 in the D1 Baseball poll, the most widely used by media in reporting rankings. Baseball America puts UC at No. 18, Just Baseball has them at No. 21, CFBHome, which is better known for football, has UC the highest in their tally at No. 12.

UC's Saturday, May 9, victory over Kansas State was Bischel's 100th with the Bearcats. Quinton Coats slammed his 25th home run in the game, putting him fourth in the NCAA in round-trippers.

The Bearcats are now 35-18 (15-12 Big 12) after going 33-26 last season and making the NCAA Knoxville Regional. The school record for wins is 39, set in 2008. UC has a three-game set with Texas Tech, Thursday-Saturday, May 14-16, before going to Surprise, Arizona, for the Big 12 Baseball Tournament, a single-elimination event May 19-23.

UC's final series will be against the 26-25 (9-18 Big 12) Red Raiders. The Big 12's top six teams get a double-bye in the tournament. Currently, UC sits seventh (15-12) with three to play vs. Texas Tech. Ahead of them is 16-11, who plays three in Morgantown against West Virginia (No. 9 in D1 Baseball). Oklahoma State (No. 21 in D1 Baseball) is also 16-11 and hosts Arizona for three in Stillwater. UCF at 17-10 hosts Kansas State for three and Arizona State (No. 22 in D1 Baseball) visits Houston for three.

UC's games this week are at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 14 and Friday, May 15. Saturday, May 16 is Senior Day at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at https://am.ticketmaster.com/bearcats/BB.

The NCAA Division I NCAA Tournament Selection Show is Monday, May 25 at noon on ESPN2.
