Given how long he's been World No. 1, it's not often you get a chance to talk smack to Scottie Scheffler. When you do get the opportunity to do so, though, you better make the most of it. That's just what Gary Woodland did on Wednesday at Shinnecock.
Of course, this smack-talking opportunity arose in a practice round, but that allowed Woodland to have a little extra fun with it. Golf.com's Josh Berhow was all over this exchange, capturing a picture of Woodland lasering Scheffler and his buddy Sam Burns with his rangefinder after outdriving them by about a mile on the 14th hole.
To further drive the point home, Woodland pulled out his phone and gave them a range, too:
Pure savagery. The phrase "you could put a Wal-Mart in between those two drives" is usually eyeroll-inducing, but it might actually apply here. Man, Woodland can move it.
Just how far to he blow it by them? Berhow made sure to ask Gary afterward:
